As 2018 draws to end, Instagram has revealed its most popular trends, hashtags and face filters used in the last 12 months.

Users couldn’t get enough of love hearts this year, which were used in their billions across the social media platform.

The love heart was the most used Giphy Sticker on Stories, and the heart eyes filter was the most used Face Filter.

Meanwhile, the love heart emoji was used a whopping 14 billion times in the comments section underneath pictures.

And, the happiest place in the world?

Disneyland Tokyo, which saw the highest use of the yellow smiley face emoji filter.

The niche community trend of 2019 was ASMR, which is an acronym for autonomous sensory meridian response – a calming and pleasurable feeling.

Other niche community trends included soap cutting, slime popping and makeup shaving.

The game Fortnite was the fastest growing hashtag used on Instagram across the world.

And the biggest viral dance challenge of the year was #inmyfeelingschallenge, inspired by rapper Drake’s number one hit.

The top advocacy hashtag was #metoo, which was used 1.5 million times.
